Jugnot addresses a tender story that unfolds in one of the darkest and most dramatic periods in French history: in 1942, the occupied France, the apolitical Edmond Batignole butcher lives with his wife and daughter in a small apartment on the top of their trade. When his future son and collaborator, Jean Pierre, called the Nazis to arrest Bernstein Jewish family, moved to the department confiscated. Some days later, the young Simon Bernstein escaped the Germans and returns to his old home. When Batignole find it, feel sorry for the child and hides him from her son and even his wife.
