COMENTARIO
Durante la ocupación nazi de Polonia, una joven Generación llega a la adultez. Y sus amigos Stach desafían espontáneamente al ocupante, una organización sin previa. While working as an apprentice, learn basic knowledge of Marxist economics mouth Sekula, who then goes into hiding. When he sees the young and brave Dorota, a youth leader of underground resistance, you volunteer. Recruit your friends and become a cell, showing courage, discipline. In the background lies the potential conflict between the communists and the partisans, both anti-Nazis, but Poles, following their own course of confrontation. The film refers to the Jewish rebellion in the Warsaw ghetto in April 1943 and the help that directly or indirectly provides the Polish resistance to the rebels. Sekula reappears here, rescued by an exit from the sewers by the Poles, which allows us to suppose that he was a member of the Jewish resistance organization operating in the "Aryan side" of Warsaw.
"Generation" complies with "Kanal" (1957) and "Ashes and Diamonds" (1958) the "war trilogy," an exciting, breathtaking shows vision on the subject Wajda war.

COMMENT
We face a very film difficult to see. Not a normal film to the public nor for the movie buff, by the way it is done. This documentary looks addressed to specialists in the Holocaust, it is precisely the content that is everything and the way film is nothing.
Within the work itself Lanzmann's film, Sobibor is a detachment of Shoa which lasts nine hours. Detachment is a theme and form. Sobibor material was shot along with the Shoa, but was not incorporated into the work mother because the story did not fit with the general approach.
The theme is everything. The revolt of prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp Sobibor, located in Poland, and that was a success as several escaped.
For Lanzmann the Sobibor historical fact represents "the reappropriation power and violence by Jews, in a self-defense against the Nazi genocide. Also, your point of view it seeks to demolish some myths about the Holocaust and saying the truth:
Jews were not the Holocaust as sheep to the slaughter, docile and resigned. They were victims of deception planned throughout the entire procedure that started from their homes until their death in gas chambers. When some groups realized the reality, implemented revolts, resistance, rebellion. The frustrated the lack of technical management of arms and the psychological conditioning that Jewish people were subjected.

COMMENT
action develops in the ghetto of Vilna, Lithuania, during the Nazi occupation, where 95% of the Jewish population was wiped out during World War II. It pays to explore the dilemma they faced the Jews who collaborated with the Germans either to buy time while the Russians were regaining control of the country, either to survive.
When the story begins, and there are only a few thousand Jews. In reality, the process was long and required the participation of hundreds of German soldiers and local collaborators during two years. Sobol uses real case of a theater that operated in the ghetto during the same period in defiance of many Jews who were unworthy to have a theater in a graveyard. "
commander Kittel is an educated man, who plays the saxophone and piano, which does not match his musical ability with his integrity, is as sadistic as the other Nazis, even if you feel attracted to a Jewish singer. Much of the film focuses on Jacob Gens, who heads the ghetto with a heavy hand, saying that "the majority seeks to save Jewish lives.
ABOUT JEWS IN VILNIUS IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR
After War, both Poland and Lithuania demanded the city, this being occupied by Polish forces in 1920. Before the outbreak of War the city was part of northeastern Poland
By signing the pact between Germany and the Soviet Union, Vilnius, along with the rest of eastern Poland was occupied by Soviet forces in late September 1939. In October, the Soviet Union transferred the Vilna region to Lithuania. The city population was 200,000, including more than 55,000 Jews. In addition, between 12,000 and 15,000 Jewish refugees from Germany occupied Poland found refuge in the city. Soviet forces occupied Lithuania in June 1940 and August 1940 in Vilnius incorporated, along with the rest of Lithuania, the Soviet Union.
Lukiszki prison served as a gathering place for Jews to carry Ponary. In late 1941, the Einsatzgruppen had killed about 40,000 Jews here. Who were in the ghetto No 1 were forced to work in factories or on construction projects outside the ghetto. Some Jews were sent to labor camps in the region of Vilnius. Periodic slaughter operations, the majority of ghetto inhabitants were massacred in Ponary. From spring 1942 to spring 1943, in Vilnius there were no slaughter operations. The Germans resumption of killings during the final liquidation of the ghetto No one in late September 1943. Children, the elderly and the sick were sent to the Sobibor extermination camp or were shot in Ponary. The men who survived were sent to labor camps in Estonia, while women were sent to labor camps in Latvia.
The ghetto was called "Yerushalayim of the ghettos" by their cultural and intellectual activities. The center of cultural life in the ghetto was Haskole Mefitze library, the library also contained the post office, the Census Bureau of the ghetto, files. Established a scientific institution for teaching and social sciences, and intellectuals wrote a lot of trials hoping to publish them after the war. It also created a symphony orchestra and a theater.
In the ghetto there was a resistance movement. In 1942 he formed a group of Jewish partisans known as the United Partisan Organization (Fareynegte Partizaner Organizatsye; FPO) operating within the ghetto and directed by Itsik Wittenberg, where his second Abba Kovner and Joseph Glazman .. The resistance created hiding places for weapons and prepared to fight the Germans. In early September 1943, realizing that the Germans intended to carry out the final destruction of the ghetto, members resistance fought against the Germans, who had entered the ghetto to begin the deportations. The Jewish Council, however, agreed to cooperate in the deportations of Jews from the ghetto, hoping to minimize the carnage. Therefore, the FPO decided to flee to nearby forests to fight the Germans. Some fighters escaped the ghetto of the final destruction, fleeing through the sewers to join the guerrillas in the forests of Naroch Rudninkai and outside the city. In September 1943, in an attempt to destroy evidence of the massacre of Jews in Ponary, the Germans forced the Jewish labor detachments open mass graves and burn the corpses Soviet forces liberated Vilna in July 1944. Isaac
Rudashevski was fourteen when he was sent to the Vilna ghetto in June 1941. Until his death in 1944, kept a diary where he wrote about his experiences. [...]
December 11 1942: The ghetto today celebrated the arrival of hundreds of books to the library of the ghetto. A festival was held in the auditorium of the theater. We went for our lessons. He had an artistic program and made several speeches.
February 7, 1943: Good news. People in the ghetto is celebrating. Fallen Stalingrad, the Germans have suffered a huge defeat. The city of Stalin is the grave of the enemy.
March 25, 1943: The German system has issued an edict on the settlement of five small ghettos in the province of Vilna. Are transporting Jews to Vilna and Kovno ghetto. The Jews of the small towns nearby have begun to arrive today.
March 28, 1943: The mood is very gloomy ghetto. The danger is looming in the air. No! This time we will not let that lead us like dogs to slaughter.
April 6, 1944: Now we know all the gory details. Instead of Kovno, Ponary brought 5,000 Jews to where they were killed. Like wild animals before he died, people began desperately to break up the train cars. Hundreds were killed. The railway line is covered with corpses. In the afternoon I went out.

COMMENT
The film tells a touching story of a German peasant before and during World War II world. The book is based on the autobiography of the Bavarian woman, Anna Wimschneider. As the oldest child in the family, should take under its responsibility under his five brothers and take care of the breadwinner, including two older brothers and his father after the death of his mother. At that time, Anna was eight.
